Moffitt Cancer Center: Women with Benign Breast Biopsies Can Be Screened At Yearly Intervals

On May 3, 2012 at the American Roentgen Ray Society meeting in Vancouver, British Columbia, Shannon Reed and colleagues reported on their study of 388 patients with benign breast biopsies.  No excess cancers were found after six and twelve month follow-up mammograms.  Two new cancers were found after 24 month follow-up mammograms.  So these authors recommend that women with benign breast biopsies could do twelve month follow-up mammograms for 2 years and then go back to routine screening mammograms.
